HQ: Can racism be blown out of proportion?

HQ: Rita & her boyfriend Darrin have been together 6 months. Rita is white Columbian & Darrin is black American. They got into an argument at a restaurant where someone recorded her calling him a “black piece of shit.” The video went viral & the company Rita works for fired her. Rita says she & Darrin already made up & it’s all being blown out of proportion. Is Rita correct?
